An old shrine in Akasaka,Tokyo, Hikawa-Jinjya is one of the enclosed sanctuaries in a vast, inorganic urban space.There, despite in the city center, many huge trees and rich greenery are kept in its ground.
“Hikawa Gardens” is an apartment facing to this sacred area, and in the light court of this building, an artwork which corresponds to the richness of this site was needed.
The light court runs along the elevator shaft from the first floor to the rooftop.
Now there, streaming lines are drawing spiral shapes, and leaf-shaped forms are floating up and down, changing the colors variously. It is like that a big collective form which changes in the vertical direction is living in a quiet light-well and shines differently according to the move of sunlight.
Japanese title of this work is pronounced “ruten rutan”.
“Ruten” means “transition”, and “rutan” is took from a french word “le temps”, which means “time”.
Technically, to ensure the safe installation of this artwork, collaborations with many specialists were required.
Specialists of porcelain and glaze, structural engineers, skilled iron craftsmen, designers for assembling, etc..
The work has 2.8 meters wide, 1.8 meters depth, and 15 meters heights, containing more than 130 porcelain parts, and it is installed outdoors.
The streaming lines are made with stainless steel and leaf-shaped forms with various colored glazes are made with reinforced porcelain, to ensure the durability against freezing in winter and heat in summer.
東京・赤坂に今も残る古い社、氷川神社は、広大で無機質な都市空間の中に守られた聖域のひとつ。
都心部にありながら、そこには多くの巨木と豊かな緑が溢れている。
「氷川ガーデンズ」はこの聖域に面する立地にあり、その内部の光庭に、場所の豊かさに呼応するアートワークが求められた。
光庭は、エレベータシャフトに沿って１階から屋上までを貫いている。
今そこには、流れる線が螺旋を描き、リーフ状のフォルムが様々に色彩を移ろわせながら上昇・下降している。
垂直方向に変化する大きな集合体が静かな光井戸に住み、光の動きに合わせて異なる輝きを発っているようだ。
日本語タイトルの「るてん」は「流転」、「るたん」は フランス語の”Le Temps”（時、季節）を意味している。
技術的には、このアートワークを安全に設置するために、多くの専門家との共同作業が求められた。
磁器、釉薬の専門家、建築構造家、熟練の鉄工技師、組み立てを考えるデザイナー等。
作品は幅2.8m、奥行き1.8m、高さ15mで、130以上の磁器パーツからなり、屋外に設置されている。
流れる軸部にはステンレス鋼、様々な色のリーフには強化磁器を用い、冬期の凍結や夏季の暑熱への耐久性を確保している。
